Matrix is an open, decentralised messaging protocol. Instead of handing your conversations to a platform such as Slack or Microsoft Teams, you get your own server (Synapse) on your own domain name. Your team uses the Element app or any other Matrix client, on desktop, in the browser or on a smartphone.
Private conversations are end-to-end encrypted, and federation lets you talk with users on other Matrix servers, just like email. Several European public administrations have chosen Matrix for their messaging, including the French government with Tchap.
I handle the installation, security updates and backups from Charleroi. You simply manage your users and rooms.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a domain name?
Yes. All plans use your domain name, so user IDs look like @firstname:your-company.be. You add a few DNS records during setup.
Which apps do my users need?
Element is the most widely used app: it is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, and as a web app. From the Standard plan, Element Web is hosted for you on your domain. Any other compatible Matrix client works too.
Can we talk with people who are not on our server?
Yes, federation is enabled on every plan: your users can join rooms or message people registered on other Matrix servers, including matrix.org.
Are messages encrypted?
Private conversations and direct messages are end-to-end encrypted by default in Element: only the participants can read them. Traffic to the server is also protected by SSL.
How many users can I create?
Up to 20 with Starter, 100 with Standard, and unlimited with Pro. You can switch plans as your team grows.
What availability and support can I expect?
The availability target is 99% per month, excluding planned maintenance announced at least 48 hours in advance. Support answers tickets within 48 business hours at most.
Where are conversations hosted?
Your Matrix server runs on servers located in Belgium. With federation, messages exchanged with people on other servers are also stored on their server.
